Invisalign® uses a series of clear, removable aligners to move teeth gradually. Patients remove their aligners for meals and routine oral hygiene, although aligners generally need to be worn according to the prescribed schedule to achieve the intended results.
Invisalign® may be an option for teens and adults with certain alignment or bite concerns. An orthodontic evaluation helps determine whether clear aligners are suitable for your needs.
Traditional metal braces use brackets and wires to guide teeth into planned positions. They can address a range of alignment and bite concerns, including cases that require more complex tooth movement.
Dr. J can evaluate your teeth and bite to determine whether braces are an appropriate option for your treatment goals.
Ceramic braces use tooth-colored or translucent brackets to make orthodontic appliances less noticeable. Like traditional braces, they apply controlled forces to move teeth over time.
Ceramic braces may suit patients who prefer a less conspicuous fixed appliance. Their suitability depends on your orthodontic needs, preferences, and treatment plan.
At Stellar Smiles Ortho, we recommend that a child's first orthodontic evaluation take place around age 6.
Children do not all develop on the same timetable. Some reach important stages of dental and physical development earlier than others. An evaluation around age 6 allows Dr. J to establish a baseline and assess developing teeth, eruption patterns, bite relationships, jaw relationships, dental arches, available space, and facial growth.
Earlier evaluation does not mean earlier treatment. It means earlier awareness.
Following the evaluation, Dr. J may recommend one of three approaches based on the child's individual development and diagnosis:
- Continued observation: Monitoring dental and jaw development through periodic evaluations when immediate treatment is not indicated.
- Interceptive Treatment: Addressing a specific developing orthodontic concern when treatment at that stage is clinically appropriate.
- Treatment at a later stage: Waiting until the child's development or dental eruption makes another stage of treatment more appropriate.
Not every child needs orthodontic treatment at a young age. For many children, observation is the appropriate recommendation.
When Interceptive Treatment is indicated, options may include Invisalign® First, Invisalign® Palatal Expander (IPE), other orthodontic appliances, or a combination of approaches, depending on the diagnosis.
The recommendation depends on the child's clinical needs, not on a predetermined treatment schedule or a particular technology.
The diagnosis comes first. The technology comes second.
Adults can explore orthodontic treatment for crowding, spacing, bite concerns, or changes in tooth alignment following earlier treatment.
Depending on the diagnosis, options may include Invisalign® or braces. Dr. J will assess your dental health and orthodontic needs before recommending an approach that fits your goals and circumstances.
After active orthodontic treatment, retainers help maintain tooth alignment. Teeth can shift over time, so following the recommended retention schedule is important.
Dr. J will explain the appropriate retainer options and wearing instructions based on your treatment and individual needs.

Every patient's experience depends on their individual needs. Here is what you can generally expect when arranging orthodontic care at Stellar Smiles Ortho.
- Initial consultation and evaluation
We discuss your concerns, examine your teeth and bite, and determine whether additional diagnostic records are needed.
- An individualized recommendation
Dr. J reviews the clinical findings and discusses the appropriate next step. For a young child, this may be continued observation, Interceptive Treatment, or treatment at a later stage. Other patients may be candidates for Invisalign®, braces, or another approach.
- Treatment planning
If treatment is recommended, the team explains the proposed approach, expected responsibilities, and follow-up arrangements. The timeline depends on the diagnosis and the treatment selected.
- Progress evaluations
Patients undergoing treatment attend follow-up appointments according to their individual treatment plans. These visits allow the orthodontic team to evaluate progress and determine whether any adjustments are needed.
- Retention after treatment
When active treatment is complete, the team explains the recommended retention plan and how to care for retainers to help maintain tooth alignment.
